Krav Maga - One of the Best Self Defense Arts

Krav Maga was founded by Imi Litchenfeld (Sde - Or) who began training in 1948 in Israel. Initially, he gave training to the IDF soldiers in order to develop a strong self-defense system. His training included physical fitness, wrestling, swimming, use of knife and defense techniques against knife attacks. In 1964, when he retired from his training career in IDF, Imi made some modifications in his self-defense techniques to cater to the needs of civilians. He then laid the foundation of IKMF (International Krav Maga Federation) that is not only available in Israel, but in Australia, North America, Far East Asia and most of the European countries as well.

The basic aim of Krav Maga is to hurt the attacker intensely. Since there are no specific sporting rules, so anyone can learn the techniques which are easy to learn and implement. Punches are a very essential part of it. Some of the punches that are taught during the training programs include straight punch, low punch, hammerfist, palm heel strike, hook, uppercut, overhand and chop. People undergoing Krav Maga training are taught defending as well as attacking techniques. Krav Maga practitioners also learn the techniques to defend themselves against punches and kicks simultaneously from any angle. Once you learn the art, it is advisable to practice with complete protective gear.

A Krav Maga practitioner needs to know some basic principles. It includes finishing the fight as early as possible. Another basic principle involves neutralizing the attacker by responding him back with counter attacks and that too continuously. It is very important to be aware of the surroundings while dealing with the attacker. Always look for more attackers with him. It will be advantageous to look for objects so that you will get some help in attacking as well as defending yourself. Further, physical and mental control is also among the most basic principles of it.
