Camping In National Parks: National Parks in Utah

Utah is known as having the most national parks in America. There are five of them, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capital Reef and Zion. No wonder this state is also called America's national parks capital. Not only that, Utah is also the state which boasts of having 7 national monuments, 2 national recreation areas, 6 national forests and a national historic site. All of these wonderful areas are not too distant from 5 other national parks. Grand Canyon in Arizona, Mesa Verde in Colorado, Great Basin in Nevada, Yellowstone in Idaho/Wyoming and Grand Teton in Wyoming. One can visit and camp in any one park or take the Grand Circle swing through them all. Whatever you decide, this camping trip is certain to be unforgettable!

Each of these national park is unique with its own distinct characteristics:

ARCHES contains the world's largest concentration of natural stone arches. This national park is a red, arid desert, with oddly eroded sandstone forms including many arches. The 73,000 acre park has over 2000 of these miracles of nature.

BRYCE CANYON has thousands of delicately carved spires which rise in brilliant color from the amphitheaters. Millions of years of wind, water, and geologic mayhem have shaped and etched the pink cliffs there.

CANYONLANDS is a huge area of rugged land of canyons and plateaus carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers. It is so vast yet the 5 unique regions are relatively close together. However, due to the rough nature of the landscape, one cannot go directly from one region to another.

CAPITAL REEF is characterized by sandstone formations, cliffs and canyons, and a 100-mile long bulge in the earth's crust called the Waterpocket Fold. There are also twisting canyons, massive domes, and spires of sandstone.

ZION is Utah's oldest national park, it was designated in 1919. This park attracts the most visitors, millions every year. It is known for its incredible canyons and spectacular views. Many visitors come to climb the cliffs there.

In 2011 my wife & I took a camping trip westward again. At the beginning of this trip we just concentrated on getting to Los Angles for a family matter. Then we planned 4 weeks' of camping from early July to August in southern Utah. We started our circle of Utah's national parks at Zion and were glad that we had reservations because all the campgrounds were full. This was true with all the parks during the summer months. You really need to make reservations as soon as your schedule is decided. Just knowing there is a place to camp gives you such peace of mind, especially after a long drive. Another good idea is to sign up for a bus or tram tour of the park with a ranger, it is not only fun but very informative. From Zion we took the scenic drive, route 89 to Bryce Canyon where the spires in their brilliant colors just took our breath away. Then on to Capital Reef, Canyonlands and Arches. Each park is majestic, magical, unique and beautiful beyond description. Even after 4 weeks of camping, being there day and night, we still felt that we could easily go back and revisit every one of them again. Please plan a camping trip to a national park soon. It would be the very best gift you can give to yourself and your family.

Since it is already the month of April, spring is here! Now is the time to plan a summer vacation, I I strongly urge you to go camping for your next vacation. Please go to my web site http://www.gocampinggo.com/ for more information on this subject.
